My First Blog Post

Upon Arrival… So the past couple of days have been definitely welcoming to Denmark. Although the weather can be described as miserable in an Australian sense but here I think it’s completely considered normal. Six degree days have become the new normal for me while waking up around 7am with there being no light. The first couple of days I spent just causally getting settled into my hosts house while also getting a SIM card and other things which I’d definitely need for my time here.

Couple of Days in… I have just started school here which has been an easy adjustment, as it’s definitely a lot more laid back and easy going when compared to school at home . All though I barely understand anything that is being said half the time, my friends have been trying their best to translate and include me within most conversations but I personally don’t mind if they do or they don’t as either way it’s still a fun time. When talking about having fun times, already the first night of school we had some of the guys blasting music out in the hallways around about 9:45pm to just past 10pm which soon turned into a party in the hall way which is always fun.

Gala at Brejning

While I attended Brejning I had the opportunity to go to a school social but it was basically a just a typical danish party. The real fun was a couple of week later in the last week of school when the school hosted the annual gala. Compared to my semi formal which I had at school last year it wasn’t that formal but for some they went all out with expensive suits and dresses and even some guys wore dresses…

The reason why a couple of the guys wore dresses was because we had to ask a partner to go to the gala and at the school there isn’t an equal amount of boys and girls so that’s how it all came about.

Quick little update

Just a brief summary… while being at the school we have taken a few little trips to nearby towns and cities in our free time. Such as last week one of our classes was canceled after lunch so three of us decide to head into Vejle which isn’t too far away by train.

While last weekend we went into an even bigger city which was further away by train which we got up super early on the weekend to make sure we would get back in time for the Olympic Games activities. The city was call Aarhus which we went to the old city which was interesting and after we walked over the the art gallery Aros i think… the main feature which we intended on seeing in the city was on the roof top of the building. Which was a massive walk around circle on top with different coloured glass panels all the way around forming a rainbow which had views of the entire city.

Weekend life at School

A couple of activities… while actual school runs all week, we have stayed at the school almost every weekend which sounds more fun than it actually is. On the weekend just passed we had an Olympic Games themed weekend where we got spilt into different countries with my exam being Russia. We didn’t win a single event but we did win the best nation costume which is interesting to explain. On the weekends we also have the opportunity to sleep in other places than our own rooms, we can sleep in one of the many classrooms in the main building or downstairs in the WII / entertainment room or if you are crazy enough in this cold weather to sleep outside. My first weekend here at the school we did just that sleeping outside which I’m almost certain we picked the coldest night to do so. After a surprisingly restful night I remember waking up to the cold winters morning sunrise which was just amazing then to next minute check my phone with the temperature being -2 degrees which was outrageously cold but the sleeping bag was definitely warm enough. After a little while of just sitting around while a couple of the others were still sleeping. Myself a few others decided to get up and walk down to the harbour and see the sunrise still which was even colder but yet one of the guys still went down in just thongs on his feet and nothing else.

My First Couple of Weeks in Summary

Just a short update… after getting settled into the school my last three weeks or so have be so interesting, to the extent that I cant even begin to scratch the surface on the amount of things that have happened. Although the day begins kinda slowly for me such because I have to sit through two classes which are around an hour and twenty minutes long so that can get kinda boring at some stages. But it is kinda restful. After that is lunch in which after is where all the fun begins… the thing which I have enjoyed the most is the outdoor line which the school runs which involves basically just going out into the massive Forrest the school owns and do your typical scout activities but not to be bias but it is definitely more fun here than at home. The other day we went for a short hike to a near by scout den which was overall like a 15km round trip hike which wasn’t too bad at all.
